Iakovos (Jako) Symeonidis (born 1990) is a Berlin-based jazz guitarist from Athens, Greece.
He frequently performs with other local Berlin musicians and has led bands at acclaimed venues such as B-flat, Kunstfabrik Schlot, Quasimodo, among others. He has been hosting jam sessions and concert series throughout the city too, most notably his weekly projects Jazz After Dark Jam Sessions (Neue Zukunft ) and Swingin’ Easy Jazz Series (Frollein Langner). Jako continues performing regularly in Greece, with recent gigs at Half Note Jazz Club, Jazzet Music Hall, Afrikana Jazz Bar, and Spiti Art Bar.

Prior to relocating to Berlin in 2019, Jako studied Classical guitar at the National Conservatory Of Athens (grad. 2013, Soloist Diploma) and Jazz guitar at Prins Claus Conservatoire (grad. 2019, Bachelor in Music/Jazz Guitar). More recently he was a semi-finalist at the international Smietana Guitar Competition (2021). Through the Prins Claus Conservatory’s “New York Comes to Groningen” program he played with various American guest teachers, such as Todd Coolman, Spike Wilner, Michael Mossman and more. He also had private lessons with Dave Stryker, Freddie Bryant, Paul Bollenback, Ed Cherry and Jonathan Kreisberg.
Iakovos graduated on July 2024 from the  Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden with a Mster’s In Jazz Guitar (JPR – Performance).

His debut album “Safe Place’’ with his Jako Organ Trio project was released in 2022, with George Kontrafouris on the Hammond organ, Dimitris Tsakas on alto saxophone, and Giannis Papadoulis on drums.

Jako is currently working on some new material while playing concerts and teaching guitar.

He is planning to record his second album soon, featuring all Berlin-based musicians.

I first met Iakovos Symeonidis as a student at the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen Netherlands. I’ve since watched him to continue to grow and develop as a player. Iakovos embraces the great Jazz guitar tradition, and he has a strong blues foundation and beautiful tone. With his new recording Safe Place Iakovos Symeonidis shows where he’s at in the classic organ trio setting. I look forward to hearing where he heads in the future.
